Motorbikes, Reggae and Waterfalls.

So yesterday and today was blisteringly hot, 38-39 degrees.

Nothing stayed cold for long, we seem on a constant mission for cold juice and water. Its a good job nearly every corner is occupied by a fresh juice and smoothy stand.

Yesterday morning we rented two mopeds, costing 100 baht a day, you have to fill it up yourself but that is just like everything in Thailand, cheap! Rob had never rode a moped before but they are easy to use and he picked it up fast.

We headed out to explore the surrounding mountains. Its a brilliant feeling of freedom, there’s nothing like riding along in the stunning scenery and sunshine. Definitely a must do in Pai.

We went to visit Mor Paeng waterfall, but as we got up there a tropical storm set in and the mountains started rumbling with thunder, we hastily scarpered back down into town.

We started towards Mae Yen, but you can only get so far by road and then its a 5 km trek through the jungle to reach it. We had set off quiet late to decided to give it another go earlier in the day on Sunday. On our way we stumbled across a little community called Valhalla, an old hut plot that had been destroyed by fire. It had been re-purchased and is now a camping area for just 60 baht per night.

However, our plans diverted when we met a group of people, two from Dublin and two from Amsterdam and had a few beers, we then headed up to a Reggae and Dub festival up in the hills. It was really great atmosphere, however we needed to keep in mind that the drinks out here are poured much stronger!

We both woke today feeling sorry for ourselves, this heat is horrendous for hangovers.

After having a sleep in, we headed up to Fluid, a lovely pool to cool off our sore heads, had some lunch and came back for an early night ready to trek to Mae Yen tomorrow.
